After making Aadhaar mandatory to link to bank accounts and to carry out various financial transactions. The Government is yet again planning to take a huge step by making Aadhaar linking compulsory for Land Records. The centre has posted letters to state and union territories to digitize the land records present.
The Government of India will make linking 12 digit Aadhaar Number with Land Records under the initiative Digital India Land Records Modernization Program (DILRMP). This step of Government for linking Aadhaar Number with Land Records will be very effective step to expose benami properties, it will also enable transparency in land records.
Linking of Aadhaar Number with Land Records will also make the process easier for authorities to identify the owner of the property. With one basic query the authorities will be easily able to track and find out whether owner is a benami or real owner of the property. Digitization of land records by linking Aadhaar Card Number will also benefit for bank loan provisions and crop insurance for farmers in India.
In most of the states like Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, , Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh the land revenue departments have already made the land records online i.e. digitalized. And the process of linking land records with Aadhaar is on way. However in Andhra Pradesh all the land records are already linked to Aadhaar Number of the Pattadars.
Below is the picture of the letter which center has wrote to Chief Secretaries of states and UTs, Additional Chief Secretaries of state and UTs, Lt Governor Delhi, NITI Aayog and a copy was also sent to the Prime Minister's Office for record.
