Aadhaar Card Gets Statutory Status

On 29th March 2016 Government of India announced that Aadhaar Card will be accorded statutory status to ensure that benefits of the government subsidies directly reach the needy. And by this statement Aadhaar Card have gained a legal foundation. While Presenting the Union Budget of 2016-17 on 29th March 2016, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley stated, “Additionally, as I will elaborate later, we will undertake significant reform including enactment of a law to ensure all government benefits are conferred to people who deserve it by giving a statutory backing to the Aadhaar platform.” By giving Aadhaar Card the statutory status it will create the circumstances to enable the way for expanding Aadhaar's use for a range of developmental purposes.
